This year we will mark the centenary of the 1916 Rising, the key moment of the Irish path to independence. Over the Bank Holiday in June 2016 from 2nd to 5th June, Kilcoole Heritage Group is planning a major festival of commemoration and celebration through the arts, through historical research and exposition, through education and activities for children and much more. This is in recognition of the part this small village played in securing arms for the Easter Rising ( in August 1914 ) known as the ‘ Kilcoole Gunrunning ‘. This festival is part of the national commemoration programme.
An bhliain seo beidh muid comóradh céad bliain Éirí Amach 1916 , nóiméad eochair ar cosán hÉireann chun neamhspleáchas . Thar an Saoire Bainc Meitheamh 2016 ón 2ú go dtí an 5 Meitheamh, tá Grúpa Oidhreachta Kilcoole pleanáil féile mór chomóradh agus ceiliúradh . trí na healaíona , trí thaighde stairiúil agus exposition , trí oideachas agus imeachtaí do leanaí agus i bhfad níos mó . Tá sé seo mar aitheantas ar an chuid is mó an sráidbhaile beag a bhí i sealbhú arm don Éirí Amach ( i mí Lúnasa 1914) , ar a dtugtar an ‘ Kilcoole Gunrunning ‘ .
The Kilcoole Remembers 1916 is been hosted by the Kilcoole Heritage Group – a voluntary organisation set up in 2014 to commemorate the events surrounding the 1914 Kilcoole Gunrunning.
The event we are planning is exactly in keeping with the tone of the 1916 advisory group – a tone that is “inclusive and non-triumphalist, ensuring authenticity, proportionality and openness”.
We invite all the public to dress up in period costume for the weekend and play your part in commemoration.
